Message: Hey I loved your book! I have 2 questions that have been asked to me that I don’t know the answer to. 1. Since we go to heaven when we die and then when jesus comes back, we live with him on the new earth for eternity, is it the same thing with hell? If someone were to die right now and they went to hell, would there be a temporary hell and then when jesus comes back, there would be the second death? And my second question is, say there were two people going to hell, the first was a child molestor and the other was a pretty decently good person but they didn’t believe in jesus, would they both be punished the same in hell?
Briana,
I am happy you enjoyed the book, thank you for letting me know. Let me address your first Question. The short answer is yes, we will live with Jesus in Heaven until His return (we will return with Him). Jesus will then renew the Heavens and New Earth. The New City of Jerusalem will sit upon the New Earth where Jesus will dwell amongst all His people. We will live on the New Earth, which will be Heaven for all of eternity.
As to the second part of your question, it is a little more complicated. When a person dies without being saved, they go to Hades, where they remain until Jesus returns. Then, they will stand before Jesus and be held accountable for everything they did, then cast into the lake of fire for all of eternity.
Your second question is also a great question. There has to be a little clarification. If the child molester was never saved, then the child molester and the decently good fellow that was not saved would suffer the same consequences of Hades and then the lake of fire. However, you must realize that Jesus does not differentiate one sin from another. (James 2: 10,11), All sin is the same in His eyes. Jesus said in the Bible that if you are guilty of one letter of the law, you are guilty of the entire law. Realizing this and knowing that Jesus died on the cross for all sin, past, present, and future, if the child molester truly did accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior, as in John 3:16, he would be saved. If this were so, then Jesus would have forgiven him, and he would go to Heaven. That does not mean he would not have consequences here before he died; he most assuredly should and could have severe consequences under our laws. We also need to remember that it is not our good deeds or works that get us into Heaven. It is by Faith in Jesus Christ, and that is the problem that the pretty good fellow has. No matter How good he or anybody is, it is not enough.
